64 miles of narrow gauge bliss lie between the railroad towns of Antonito, CO and Chama, NM. Remnants of the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad (D&RGW). Located at the southern end of the San Luis Valley, the Cumbres and Toltec crosses the Colorado/New Mexico boarder 11 times. It’s a fun filled day and provides one a glimpse into the old American West. A hearty meal (meatloaf, Chicken, and a vegetarian option) is served at the old track maintenance town of Osier, CO. Here, you’ll find some of my favorite images from the few trips I’ve managed on the C&TS.
The Cumbres and Toltec has become one of my favorite Steam Trains to ride.
