Located East of Reykjavik, Iceland’s Capital, the “Golden Circle” usually consists of:
Thinguellir (Pinguellir) National Park: is the site of Iceland’s Alpiing, or the annual Parliament of Iceland. It was held at this location from AD 930-AD 1798 ( supposedly the worlds first Parliament but have also read that title can go to the Faroe Islands- A place I need to visit to confirm). A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it also marks the boundary of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Geysir Geothermal area: A popular destination for travelers ( ourselves included). The Geysir Geothermal area has a surface area roughly 3km in size. Boiling mud pits and Geysers can be found.
Gullfoss Waterfall: One Iceland’s most iconic Waterfalls.
