A moody night run over Red Cone and a quick morning at the cabin

After all the maintenance work on the 4runner recently, it was nice to finally get out into the hills. Heading up this past Friday to join my pal Travis and a few others for a fun but moody night run over Red Cone. After airing down, we headed up the trail. We were able to keep a good pace with just three rigs. Once above timberline, we had a good view of the weather below. Kenosha Pass seemed to be getting hammered with rain. Pushing hard, we made it to the top of Red Cone around 8pm. After some time soaking in the last of the light and watching a few rigs climb up Radicle Hill in the dark, we headed down for Montezuma. After airing up, it was a bit of a drive to get back to the 4runner in Conifer, then to the cabin. Finally crawling into bed around 12:30am. After a few hours of sleep, woke up to catch the sunrise.

It sure felt good to have the 4runner running great again after a bit of maintenance work!

A typical scene for Colorado in the mountains. Was happy to have the 4runner back and running great.

We turned off 285 just below the start of Kenosha Pass, stopped to air down and continued on to the trail.

Angelo and his diesel (factory )80 series Land Cruiser.

My pal Travis.

Travis spotted two good size Moose.

Working our way through the forest. A few tight switchbacks to navigate through the trees as we climb in elevation.

Once above tree line, we pushed hard to make it to the top of Red Cone before darkness set in. While climbing, I was surprised to see the clouds having some great light as the sunset, especially with how gloomy and rainy the day had been. This was the only pic I was able to get of the sunset.

Looking towards Mt. Evans.

Angelo making his way to the top of Red Cone. In the distance is Kenosha Pass.

Red Cone Peak. 12,801ft.

We spent some time at the top taking in the views and the last of the light. Also watched a group of rigs clime up Radical Hill in the dark.

Angelo.

As the last bit of light faded we, we hoped back in the rigs and headed down Red Cone. At Webster Pass, we headed towards Montezuma and Keystone. From there it was a long trek back to the Park N Ride in Conifer. Over Loveland Pass, down into Evergreen then up to Conifer. Back in the 4runner, I headed back down to Evergreen and on to the cabin. Finally crawling into bed around 12:30am.

After a few hours of sleep at the cabin, woke up early to catch the sunrise.

Morning light on the Aspens below the cabin. I always stop and photograph them:).

As I was driving out of the property, noticed the light above the farmhouse and Evans. Stopped for a bit to photograph and enjoy.
