Act two: A long beautiful hike to Sids Mountain Cabin.
Sid’s Mountain Cabin, also known as Koffords cabin has been on my radar for a long time. Like since I was in middle school. I set aside a full day to do the hike to Sid’s Mountain Cabin. Though it was early December, we had a blue bird day. When we finally got back to the vehicles that evening, we hiked 13 miles total for the day. A long, but wonderful day.
A morning stroll around camp before everyone was up.
It’s always an enjoyable camp at the base of Mexican Mountain.

Jason Hanson, a Moab local, joined us for the run this year. He brought his big hunter tent and stove. We’d end up enjoying it quite a bit.

Getting closer.
Sid’s Mountain Cabin: Koffords Cabin. Built in the 1930’s by the Kofford family and used as a homestead. There is an older homestead, along with a corral. IT’s thought that the Wild Bunch might have visited the area.
The cabin is on stilts, and still in decent shape.
The older homestead.
Starting the hike back and chasing the setting sun.
Starting the climb back down into Salt Wash.
We spotted some old Cattle brands and an inscription on one of the ledges as we were climbing back out of Salt Wash.
