Ghost Town Run 2022. Act 3: A stroll around Tin Cup, Mirror Lake and Tin Cup Pass

For the last day of this years Ghost Town Run, we broke camp and headed out of Pitkin via Cumberland Pass (12,015ft). After the necessary group photo at the top of Cumberland, my pal Travis took the group over a fun route into TinCup instead of the normal drive down Cumberland. Once, down in TinCup, I spent some time walking around the town, taking pics and enjoying all that is summer in the mountains. Once we were all back in town, we headed over to Mirror Lake for lunch. To finish the day, we enjoyed a drive over TinCup Pass (12,154 ft). Near the top, we came upon a broken side x side- electrical issues. So we helped to them to the top of the pass to at least be off the trail. While at the top, a Jeep Scrambler group towed them back to there trailer and off the trail. The drive down TinCup Pass to St. Elmo turned into a wet one with a big rainstorm. After airing up, we all headed separate ways towards home. Another great weekend out with friends!

Looking back down the valley we just came up. Some fine views all around.

Summer bloom.

Travis took the group a different way to get down into TinCup. Looking back up on the group as I dropped down Cumberland towards TinCup.

After Cumberland Pass, I took some time to walk around and photograph TinCup. Though a popular spot in the summer months, TinCup is a pretty neat town to check out, filled with lots of mining history. The name TinCup came from when prospector Jim Taylor found some gold while prospecting and brought it back in a “tin cup”. The last election in TinCup was held in 1918.

Mirror Lake. So named for the mirror like reflections you can see on a calm day. Though every time i’ve been there, it’s not been mirrory. We stopped here for lunch and take in the views.

Making our way up TinCup Pass. Didn’t get many pics of the climb to the top. As we neared the top of the pass we came upon a side x side that was broken down. After some time trying to help get it started, we towed him to the top of the pass. There was a group of Jeep Scramblers at the top that helped tow the side x side back to there trailer. Was good to get them helped out and off the trail.
