Argentine Pass, June 2011

We had a beautiful early June day for our first clean up run of the season with the Clear Creek Ranger District. The snow kept us from getting to the higher portions of Argentine Pass, but we still had a productive and fun day on the trail.

At the trail head off Guenella Pass.

Drivers meeting. Martin, a fellow club member, was working with the Clear Creek Ranger District that season and got to ride along with us.

Updating the signage for the season.

We sure do! :).

Treeroot.

Lots of this during the day:).

Snow still blocking the old railroad grade of the Agrentine Central. Matt Miller gave this drift a few attempts but no luck breaking through. We’d have to wait till the snow melted a bit more before making it up to the Santiago Mine.

Looking West towards Argentine Pass.

Mt. Wilcox to the left.

One of my bucket list items for East Argentine Mining District is to check out this old miners cabin. Can be seen from the old town site of Waldorf.

At the old town site of Waldorf. You can see the road that leads up to Argentine Pass in this pic- still covered in snow.

Ige.

Matt Miller eating his lunch and can’t remember who’s in the red….

Great view of the upper end of the East Argentine Mining District from the old town site of Waldorf- once claimed to have the highest post office in the US at 11,666ft. Mt. Wilcox is to the left, and Argentine Pass to the far right of the pic.

Headed over to the eastern end of the valley to check on some roads.

Dan K fording Leavenworth Creek. Always fun during the spring run off.

Dean in his first gen mini.

Leavenworth Creek was flowing pretty good that day with the spring run off.

Fine views from the passenger seat of Matt’s FJ40 Land Cruiser.

Dean climbing out of the treeline and some fine views of the old grade of the Argentine Central Railroad.

This building was part of the old scenic tramway that came up from Silver Plume. Another bucket list item for me.

A fine day on Argentine indeed!

One of the many user created roads on this side of the valley. We would later close this route off with help from the Clear Creek Ranger District.

Found some more illegal toilets in the woods near a hunters camp. More things to do for another clean up day.

One of the funner crossings for Leavenworth Creek.

Came across this camp that still had a warm fire. We took some time to make sure it was fully out.

End.
