Argentine Pass June 2020

Headed up Argentine Pass on a Saturday in June. This was my first trip up to Argentine for the year, my pal Travis joined me for the day. With this trip, I started working on what i’m calling the “Argentine Project” and the first thing on the agenda was to check out an old miners cabin across from the old town site of Waldorf. I’ve been curious about this old cabin every since I got the trail adopted with the club way back in 2003. So, we strapped on the packs and headed across the valley on foot. A fun way to start the summer season up on Argentine!

At the old town site of Waldorf. We parked the rigs here, threw on the packs and headed out on foot to the old miners cabin.

The old miners cabin as seen from Waldorf.

Argentine Pass still blocked by snow in June of 2020.

Making our way across the valley.

Some great views.

The brush was pretty thick and made for some slow hiking.

Finlay at the old miners cabin. I was standing on a tailing pile when I took this pic. Mine entrance was up against the hill. The cabin was in decent shape, and had a second level. Looked like some one tried to insulate the inside at some point.

Great view of Waldorf from the cabin.

Marsh Merigolds?

A great view of Argentine Pass and Pioneer Union Ditch- Leavenworth Creek.

Travis had never been over to the Vidler tunnel, so after our hike and lunch, we headed over to check it out.

At the Vidler Tunnel. Was once planned to be an access tunnel for the steam trains to get to some of the mining districts on the west side of the pass. Completed in 1968, the tunnel is 1.4 miles long.

Looking North back towards Waldorf.

A good view of Mt. Wilcox and whats left of the old mill.

End.
