I’ve been eyeballing the Spanish Peaks country for some time. Usually on a drive south to New Mexico- “need to check out those mountains one day” is what I always seem to say. So for this years “ghost Town Run”, I decided it was finally time to “go check them out”.
We started the trip in Aguilar, CO. A town that seems to almost be a Ghost Town. Last census put the town at 538 people. It’s a small community, with some history going back to the Ludlow Massacre. Aguilar can be found off the I-25 corridor south of Walsenburg, CO. To get into the Spanish Peaks and on to La Veta, we took Cordova Pass. Hermit Pass ended up being a full day adventure for Saturday while Sunday morning we took the drive up to the Cloverdale Mine, our only “Ghost Town” for this years run.
An always fun weekend exploring the Colorado mountains with friends.
