The Cloverdale Mine woould end up being the only “Ghost Town” wed check out for this years run. I stumbled upon it while searching for Ghost Towns on the Eastern side of the Sangre de Christos. A few old buildings, along with an old Dodge van, can be found at the site. The mill for the Cloverdale Mine, is located just above. Sadly, I didn’t have a chance to check that out, as it looks super cool (plan to be back in the summer of 2021).
Feel like this area is an absolute gem and plan on getting back to check out the area more.
Camp just along the start of the Cloverdale Mine Road.
A moody evening.
Woke up just in time to miss what looked to be a spectacular sunrise.
Some great views of the Wet Mountains as we made our way up the trail.
Group shot at Rainbow Reservoir ( I rode along). Some great camping here!
Further up the trail. It was narrow the whole drive up to the mine.
Our first glimpse of the Cloverdale mine. These were support buildings for the Mill that was just up the hill. That old van was awesome.
Checking out the buildings.
Group shot. Expect to see a post about a Ghost Town Run 2020 poster shortly:).
I was ten years old when this news paper was printed.
Somebody was having a good time:).
The main section of the Cloverdale Mine. Apparently lots to check out!
From what i’ve gathered, the mine started in 1922, but mined from 1951 to around 1960 by the Oakwood Mining Company- mostly mining Gold, with some lead and Silver.
Honeybadger.
Making our way back to camp and an end to another great trip!
End.
