Chasing the Cumbres and Toltec, summer 2015. Act 3: The chase from Big Horn Wye

Since the Antonito train doesn’t leave the depot till 10am, we were able to enjoy a lazy morning around camp before making our way to the Big Horn Wye. The Big Horn Wye, a section of track that resembles a “Y” is used to turn the trains around. It didn’t take us long to get to the Wye. But once, the train came, the chase was on to beat it to Sublette. I’ll admit, it was an absolute blast chasing the train on those dirt roads below Sublette. taking pics as it passed by, then rushing ahead to the next photo spot. Good fun, great country, great friends and cool old steam trains:). A great weekend.

Below Sublette, making our way to “Big Horn Wye”. A beautiful morning to start the chase.

Stopped to air the tires down a bit.

#488 from Antonito passing by. The first of many.

A super fun stretch of road that follows the track.

Old iron:).

Typical scene for the day. Get photos of the train, then run to the rigs and get past it for the next photo opp.

We made it to Sublette just as #488 was coming in. So fun!

These kind folks thought we were there papparazi. So I took a pic of them:).

Making our way to Osier. With the hopes of beating the Antonito train.

Fine views as we head into Osier, NM.

#488 Antonito train coming into Osier.

After catching the train at Osier, we packed up and headed back towards Denver. I made a detour and spent the last night at the cabin outside Evergreen, CO. A nice sunset as I made my way into the property.
