After meeting up at Slee Off Road in Golden, CO, I headed West Wednesday afternoon with my pals Jackson and Matt Ralston from the 4×4 club. After supplies and dinner in Grand Junction we continued West to a planned camp along the edge of the San Rafael Reef. But no sooner did we cross the boarder into Utah, we heard some friends on the Ham Radio that were camping in Rabbit Valley. We made a u-turn and ended up hanging out well into the night- a perfect night to sleep under the stars (apparently I forgot to turn off my 2am work alarm and woke Jackson up- I was passed out).
After the stay at home orders to help fight the Corona Virus Pandemic during the spring, it felt great to be out on the dirt with friends again. The drive into the Henry’s and camp via Bull Creek Pass was uneventful but most enjoyable. Friends from Salt Lake joined us later that evening.
Morning camp in Rabbit Valley. Packed up and ready to hit the road.
We stopped by the Wolverton Mill located next to the BLM office in Hanksville. This mill once was located in the old mining town of Eagle City. A really cool mill and worth the time to check out.
To get into the Henry’s, we used the access road from the old town site of Giles and the Fremont River.
Jackson checking out the river crossing. Compared to our crossing back in 2007, this was a cake walk- didn’t even need 4wd.
Steamboat Butte in the distance.
Jackson ahead of the group, taking pics of us.
Starting the climb up into the Henry’s. Bull Mountain greats us.
Stopped to air down and smooth out the ride.
Climbing higher into the Henry’s.

Above Wickiup Pass. The views of the desert from this stretch of road are superb!
Taking in the views.
Making our way to Bull Creek Pass.
Jackson contemplating the campfire.
A most wonderful camp.
Our buddies Kurt and Paul from Salt Lake coming in hot.
Evening light.
Back at one of my most favorite perches, watching the sun set over Capital Reef and the Water Pocket Fold. Bliss.
Looking back on the Henry’s and North Ridge.
End.
